Live and Local: Theatre Artibus - Curtis Park stories on stage

Call it “next level community storytelling.” The project to showcase authentic stories from Denver’s Curtis Park neighborhood hits the stage May 8-18 with the Theatre Artibus production of “The Sala Project: Echoes of Curtis Park.”

Months ago, producers began holding story circles around the 100-year-old East Denver neighborhood to capture true stories from families. (KUVO interviewed Theatre Artibus co-founder and executive director Meghan Frank on the roots of The Sala Project in November 2024).

The production features a cosmic DJ who takes over the storytelling (sound design by The Latin Soul Party’s Ricky O). The stories were recorded and rewritten for the stage by director Lisa Hori-Garcia, who visited KUVO’s Morning Set with longtime KUVO host and Chicano Music Hall of Fame member Debra Gallegos.
